Grey Roger LCD watch for Space Pirates!

Design submitted by Firdaus from Malaysia.

Firdaus says: Once upon a time, in the Zeta Reticuli star system, a battle between galactic pirates erupted. The era of pirates conflict was known as Great Age of Space Pirates. The *space* pirates used to identify themselves with pirate flags called Grey Roger, inspired by very first pirate flag own by a legendary *space* pirate named Grey D Roger. The flag symbolize a Grey skull crossed with serpent weapons.

So that was a story I made up myself to describe this watch design of mine. Grey Goger is an always on LCD watch that shows hour, minute and second in digital format guises as an alien pirate flag. The watch can also display the date and has EL backlight for nighttime illumination. The lens is slightly convex, inspired by astronaut headgear.

This watch is not necessarily means for alien cultists, but rather for anyone who interested in combination of alien, pirate, serpent and perhaps, ninja elements in a watch design.

I think this design has a very cryptic iconic display that give futuristic and mystery fashion statement to the wearer. The fact that its digital watch, other functions such as 24 hour mode, stopwatch and dual time zone can also be incorporated.

  1. Some impressive out-of-he-box thinking there Firdaus! =) It’s a fun idea, well executed. I suspect I’d need some time to learn to read it quickly, but should be no more difficult than most other submissions. Not sure I’d buy it for myself, but I’d certainly recommend it to people looking for something fun and unusual. Good luck!

  2. Wow! Very cool Firdaus! It took me a few moments to realise the crossed weapons were funky digits. I can’t say I have ever thought to myself “what I really need is a watch inspired by space pirates” but now I realise that I need this! Very nice work and stunning images (as we have come to expect from you) 5*/Y best of luck sir! ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. I’m so impressed with the combination of sword carrying pirate followed closely by an alien. So simple and yet distinctive. I want the white one. All the best.

  4. Thank you Tokyo Flash for finally made this design to this blog. I hope people like it. And I think the feedback is quite okay for now. Thank you everyone for the feedback! Know what there’s nothing hurt to support this design so it can physically see the light of day. May The Grey Roger be with you. Cheers!

  5. The theme of a Space Pirates Jolly Roger: Skull & Cross Bones (serpentine Weapons): Grey Roger is just awesome I wish i’d thought of that. The style of the digits will appeal to those looking for a cryptic Wristwatch display.
Furthermore I think that the serpent weapons could become analogue Hour / Minutes Hands with the center Skull displaying the AM / PM plus the number of elapsed seconds. As a secondary Analogue Display Format as well as the current Digital Format.

  7. Very Cool Firdaus!!
I also like the colored buttons exposed on the sides, the same color as the display…
    (assuming those are buttons!)
    Best of luck.

  8. I like the overall look. I like the “feathers” look of the 8 that transform in different spear head. I would prefer if the reading was, all L/R, top > bottom > center.
