Venturi analogue watch ‘saws’ through time.

Design submitted by Peter from the UK.

Peter says: This is “Venturi” which I suppose could be described as an analogue equivalent to “Blade”. It certainly shares some inspiration imagery but the time telling is much more conventional.

BASIK watch blends classic styling with modern display.

Design submitted by Jose from Spain.

Jose says: Always caught my eye, analog watches particularly that do not use hands to tell time.

Furthermore, as a personal choice, I’m very interested in a watch with basic features accurate in the measure of time and datary. This is the basis for the development of this new concept which I share with you: BASIK.

vtol: Sci-fi powered LED watch

Design submitted by Peter from the UK.

Peter says: As blog regulars know I have a thing for industrial and mechanical designs. Im also a bit of a film buff and gamer and like futuristic cars and planes that often feature.

This design I guess is inspired by futuristic planes from film and games and has a little DNA from earlier designs like “hunter killer” and “drone”.  This design is called “vtol” (vertical take off and landing) and features two jet engine like displays.

‘Deflection’ analog watch uses optical distortion to tell the time

Design submitted by Peter from the UK.

Peter says: Back in August 2012 I submitted a design called “Grid” which displayed the time in a very simple analogue format using a projected grid onto slightly 3D looking hands or discs. This gave the watch a retro futuristic look but would have been tricky to make due to the projection element.

This design called “Deflection” gets around this issue but retains the retro futuristic look.

Swirl watch uses vertical gauge for analogue time.

Design submitted by Peter from the UK.

Peter says: I was trying to come up with a simple but unusual time display using a bar graph like layout.

It would have been very easy and maybe a little predictable to use LEDs or LCD blocks to do this when I had a little Eureka moment and realised that it could be very easy to achieve with a standard analogue movement.

Shuriken watch awakes the ninja within you.

Design submitted by Peter from the UK.

Peter says: This is “Shuriken” and as the name suggest this design is inspired by the throwing stars made famous by Samurai warriors. The blades of said throwing stars provide the shape for the analogue hands in this back to basics design.
